Absalon
by Mette Thingstrup and Lene Grønborg Poulsen
Absalon is a new kind of community concept in Copenhagen, Denmark you should definitely visit! But if Scandinavia feels far away, this book is a lovely approximation and introduction to their creative minds. Colorful photos and scrapbooked pages invite the reader into their world of baking, bordtennis, yoga classes, furniture, and chess. Above all else, learn how to make your own community (space)!
— Simon Traub-Epstein, International Library of Young Authors
From the publisher: “Absalon, also known as the 'extension of your living room', was founded by Lennart and Sus Lajboschitz and inhabits the building that was formerly Absalon Church, in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. Absalon's doors first opened to the world in August 2015. Since then, a communal dinner, or 'fællesspisning, has been hosted in the great hall every single day of the year, gathering up to 200 people each time. Lennart and Sus, together with their team, have created a space where you will find everything from board games, ping pong, dance, film screenings, concerts, parties, dinners and more. Regardless of the activity, the purpose is always the same: to bring people together around a shared activity.”
