Anatomy of Empathy
by Amos Alonzo Stagg High School Students
These oral histories provide a glimpse into the lives and pasts of Amos Alonzo Stagg High School students and teachers alike. Students interviewed their peers as well as adults who have made a difference in their lives. There are tales of opportunities both taken and missed, reflections on immigration and the pull between two places, and inspiring stories of overcoming hardship.

From the publisher: “The cover of this book represents a simple worksheet covering the anatomy of the human heart. Amos Alonzo Stagg High School's Voice of Witness class decided to shake up the anatomy assignment and investigate the thoughts, feelings, ideas, and experiences that make us human. We hope these stories can shake something up in you as well, and inspire you to be curious to see the world from another point of view. Rather than focus on the tangible construction of what we know is physically true for us all, we wanted to find the stories that make us unique and help others understand the power a story has to build empathy. Although we don't claim to know everything about the anatomy of empathy, we have learned along the way that sometimes it all starts with a question.”
