Five Quarts of Kindness
by 826 Valencia Youth Authors
Poetry, fiction, and journalism make up this trifecta of enjoyment. Hear about Justin Bieber's hair slays, happy hearts, frozen clocks, pillow-making, tie-dye, and the recipe to a perfect birthday. See both orange and rainbow skies.
— Simon Traub-Epstein, International Library of Young Authors
From the publisher: “826 Valencia is fortunate to partner with local community-based organizations and schools to support the writing skills of students in the SoMa and Tenderloin neighborhoods of San Francisco. In preparation for building a second 826 Valencia center in San Francisco, we developed a variety of writing programs for youth at the Boys and Girls Club Tenderloin Clubhouse, Glide Family, Youth, and Childcare Center, De Marillac Academy, Tenderloin Community School, and Bessie Carmichael Elementary School (in collaboration with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Precita Eyes Muralists). With the help of our incredibly dedicated and inspiring volunteers and interns, students became vital members of a writing community. This book is a selection of their work and gives a glimpse of the power of our students' voices.”
