Memorias Grabadas

by Theodore Roosevelt High School Students

In a unique writing format, these students first wrote narrative memories in Spanish. Next, they worked to translate their stories into English while still preserving their raw emotion and original intentions. Read about the sadness found in leaving loved ones behind mixed with the happiness of seeing a brighter future, cooking for siblings in busy kitchens, and giving a loving home to a lost animal.

— Simon Traub-Epstein, International Library of Young Authors

From the publisher: “Memorias Grabadas is a blend of fiction and nonfiction based on the lived experiences of students in Mr. Martinez's ELD 2 class. Each narrative honors a meaningful memory from their young lives, described in great detail and paired with a song and lyrics that is reflective of their story. In the journey as English learners, these authors have beautifully used their voices to create a book that takes readers on an emotional jump through time.”
